Greeters are a ministry of hospitality ~ It goes beyond greeting and welcoming newcomers or parishioners... It begins at the Church doors, and extends beyond the foyer of the Church. The Greeter serves as an extension of the Priest. A Priest cannot personally greet each member of the congregation, but a Greeter can act in his place welcoming all those who come to share in our Mass. The Priest extends his personal expression of warmth by shaking hands after the Mass is over as we leave the church.
Along with offering a warm and friendly greeting to all who enter the church for weekend masses, Greeters assist those who need assistance entering the building, answer basic questions or give directions to the appropriate sources for information, and distribute special handouts.
The Greeters Ministry is a perfect opportunity for those who want to volunteer when they attend Sunday Mass, or for those who enjoy meeting and greeting others in a warm and friendly manner. The average commitment is about thirty minutes before mass starts. Greeters must present a modest appearance, be friendly and be able and willing to assist other hospitality ministries, such as Ushers and also at special events of our parish which require greeters and welcomers.
