Ushers play a major role in preparing worshipers for a positive worship experience in such a way that it leads to conscious, active and full participation of all so that the true and full meaning of the Mass, the source and summit of the Christian life, the re-presentation of the sacrifice of Calvary, is evident.
The most important role the Usher serves is that of quiet and reverent hospitality. The Usher is a person chosen to reflect the warmth and welcome of Christ Himself. At Star of the Sea Parish, the Ministry of Ushers is a liturgical ministry of hospitality, a key to being an invitational and evangelizing parish.
Ushers assist with seating at the weekend Masses, take up the collection and hand out the weekend bulletin after Mass. They assist with the smooth flow of Holy Communion distribution and are available to help anyone in need of extra assistance.
In case of an emergency, the ushers will take the lead in getting people to safety in an orderly manner. We’re always looking for ushers who have a true love for the people of the church and a desire to promote an atmosphere of reverence and worship in the house of God.
